How the Renaissance led to the Protestant Reformation
The Renaissance led to the Protestant Reformation for many different reasons. Some of these reasons were humanism and technological advances. Humanism showed people that they had the power of understanding God and religion. This led to people raising questions about the Catholic Church and how they were taught to do what they were told. Technological advances also led to the Reformation. An example of this would be the printing press. This allowed many ideas and stories to be available to all people easily. This allowed more people to learn about humanism and religion which led to protestant ideas.
95 Theses
Martin Luther's issue with the Catholic Church was the selling of indulgences as a way to achieve salvation. This became corrupt and soon any person could receive in indulgence without have to carry out good works. Those who were sinners could easily obtain salvation through this process. Luther wanted to stop the church from proceeding with this action. This led to the basis of Protestantism.
1. The pope has neither the will nor the power to remit any penalties beyond those imposed either at his own discretion or by canon law.
2. And let them thus be more confident of entering heaven through many tribulations rather than through a false assurance of peace.
These two complaints are apart of Martin Luther's 95 Theses and they are valid for a few reasons. They show that no person can grant salvation when needed through indulgences bought. People are are not allowed to enter heaven through salvation that hasn't been earned through hard work.
